Turkish Retail Sales Rise for 2nd Month
Retail sales in Turkey increased 5.9 percent year-on-year in October 2019, following an upwardly revised 3.1 percent gain in the previous month. It was the second straight month of increase in retail trade, boosted by sales of non-food products (9.2 percent vs 5.1 percent in September), fuel (5.8 percent vs 4.9 percent), and food, drinks, and tobacco (0.2 percent vs -1.8 percent). Within non-food, trade grew for computer, books, telecommunication equipment (13.9 percent vs 12.4 percent), textiles, clothing, footwear (12.0 percent vs 9.3 percent), medical goods, cosmetic (7.2 percent vs 2.7 percent), and online trade (41.1 percent vs 37.0 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales went down 0.2 percent, compared to a 0.8 percent rise in September.

Turkish Retail Sales Rise for First Time in 13 Months
Retail sales in Turkey increased 2.7 percent year-on-year in September 2019, following a downwardly revised 4.2 percent fall in the previous month. It was the first gain in retail sales since August last year, as sales of non-food products rebounded sharply (4.7 percent vs -5.8 percent in July), while sales of fuel rose faster (4.4 percent vs 0.6 percent). In addition, sales of food, drinks, and tobacco fell softer (-2 percent vs -4.9 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales went up 0.6 percent, easing from an upwardly revised 0.4 percent rise in August.

Turkish Retail Sales Drop for 1-Year Straight
Retail sales in Turkey decreased 4.3 percent year-on-year in August 2019, following a downwardly revised 3.4 percent fall in the previous month. It was the 12th consecutive month of declines and the steepest since April. Sales fell further for food, drinks and tobacco (-5 percent vs -0.8 percent in July) and non-food products (-5.8 percent vs -4.2 percent). On the other hand, sales rebounded for fuel (0.4 percent vs -5 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales went up 0.3 percent, rebounding from a 1.5 percent drop in July.

Turkey Retail Sales Fall the Most in 3 Months
Turkey's retail trade decreased 3.7 percent year-on-year on July 2019, following a downwardly revised 0.9 percent fall in the previous month. It was the eleventh consecutive month of declines, due to lower sales of food, drinks & tobacco (-1 percent vs -0.4 percent in June); fuel (-5 percent vs -2 percent); and non-food products (-4.5 percent vs -0.8 percent), of which electronic goods & furniture (-20.8 percent vs -6.2 percent) and computers, books & telecommunications equipment (-7.5 percent vs -3.9 percent). Meanwhile, sales of medical goods & cosmetic increased (2.6 percent vs 0.5 percent) and those of textiles, clothing & footwear advanced further (14.6 percent vs 6.9 percent). On a monthly basis, retail trade went down 1.5 percent, after an upwardly revised 2.6 percent rise in the prior month.

Turkish Retail Sales Fall for 10th Month
Turkey's retail trade dropped 1.2 percent from a month earlier on June 2019, following a revised 3.3 percent decline in the previous month. That was the tenth consecutive month of contraction, due to lower sales of food, drinks & tobacco (-0.7 percent vs -2.7 percent in May), fuel (-2.3 percent vs -7.4 percent) and non-food products (-1.0 percent vs -1.9 percent) such as electronic goods & furniture (-6.4 percent vs -20.4 percent), computers, books & telecommunications equipment (-4.3 percent vs -6.6 percent) and medical goods & cosmetics (-0.8 percent vs 5.5 percent).

Turkey Retail Sales Fall 3.7% YoY in May
Turkey’s retail trade dropped 3.7 percent year-on-year in May 2019, following a downwardly revised 6.6 percent fall in the previous month. Sales declined less for non-food products (-2.3 percent from -6.8 percent); and automotive fuel (-7.8 percent from -11.3 percent). Within non-food products, sales went down at a softer pace for electronic goods & furniture (-20.7 percent from -22.2 percent) and sales advanced further for textiles, clothing & footwear (23.2 percent from 5.9 percent) and via mail orders and internet (32.1 percent from 18.8 percent); medical goods & cosmetic (4.9 percent from 1.9 percent). Meanwhile, sales of food, drinks & tobacco fell further (-3 percent from -2.7 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales increased 0.3 percent, rebounding from a downwardly revised 1.4 percent decline in the prior month.
