Netherlands Retail Sales Growth Eases in October
Retail sales in the Netherlands increased 3.9 percent year-on-year in October 2019, following a 4.6 percent growth in the previous month. Sales went up softer for non-food (4.1 percent vs 4.5 percent in September), in particular for personal care products (2.5 percent vs 2.8 percent), shoes & leather goods (0.4 percent vs 4.2 percent), clothing (0.6 percent vs 4.6 percent), DIY products, kitchens, flooring (5.8 percent vs 7.3 percent). Recreational goods trade fell 3 percent (vs 0.8 percent in September). Meantime, sales went up faster for both consumer electronics (4,7 percent vs 1.2 percent) and furniture and household articles (8.0 percent vs 7.1 percent). On the other hand, sales of food continued to increase (1.9 percent vs 1.1 percent).

Dutch Retail Sales Rise the Most in 17 Months
Retail sales in the Netherlands increased 4.6 percent year-on-year in September 2019 from an upwardly revised 3.1 percent growth in the previous month. This was the strongest growth in retail trade since April last year, as sales went up faster for non-food (4.4 percent vs 1.9 percent in August), particularly personal care products (2.8 percent vs 0.2 percent), while sales rebounded sharply for: shoes & leather goods (4.2 percent vs -5.9 percent), consumer electronics (1.2 percent vs -3.6 percent), and clothing (4.8 percent vs -4.6 percent). Meanwhile, sales rose softer for: furniture and household articles (7.7 percent vs 8.4 percent), DIY products, kitchens, flooring (7.2 percent vs 10.0 percent), and recreational goods (0.6 percent vs 1.8 percent). On the other hand, sales of food continued to increase (1.1 percent vs 2.1 percent).

Retail sales in the Netherlands increased 3.0 percent year-on-year in August 2019 from a downwardly revised 3.3 percent growth in the previous month. This was the weakest growth in retail trade since May, as sales rose slower for non-food (2.0 percent vs 2.7 percent in July), particularly furniture and household articles (8.4 percent vs 10.1 percent). In addition, sales fell for shoes & leather goods (-5.8 percent vs 0.1 percent), while sales dropped faster for both consumer electronics (-3.7 percent vs -3.5 percent) and clothing (-4.7 percent vs -1.3 percent). On the other hand, sales went up faster for: DIY products, kitchens, flooring (10.0 percent vs 7.0 percent), recreational goods (2.1 percent vs 1.7 percent), while sales of personal care products rebounded (0.2 percent vs - 0.5 percent). Meantime, sales of food continued to increase (2.0 percent vs 1.3 percent).

Retail sales in the Netherlands increased 3.4 percent year-on-year in July 2019 from a 2.8 percent growth in the previous month. This was the strongest growth in retail trade since March, as sales rose faster for food (1.4 percent vs 1.0 percent in June) and non-food (2.9 percent vs 2.4 percent in June), particularly furniture and household articles (11.4 percent vs 8.2 percent) and DIY products, kitchens, flooring (7.1 percent vs 6.3 percent), while sales of recreational goods rebounded (1.6 percent vs -2.1 percent). Meantime, sales went up softer for shoes & leather goods (0.1 percent vs 0.5 percent) while sales fell for consumer electronics (-3.4 percent vs 0.2 percent); personal care products (-0.2 percent vs 0.2 percent); and clothing (-1.4 percent vs 2.0 percent).

Retail sales in the Netherlands increased 2.8 percent year-on-year in June 2019, slowing from a downwardly revised 3.0 percent growth in the previous month. Non-food trade growth eased (2.3 percent vs 3.5 percent in May), particularly due to furniture, home furnishings (8.0 percent vs 12.2 percent in May); consumer electronics (0.2 percent vs 6.4 percent). In addition, sales of recreational goods fell more than a month earlier (-3.0 percent vs -0.9 percent). Meantime, sales rose faster for do-it-yourself items, kitchens, floors (5.8 percent vs 4.7 percent). On the other hand, sales rebounded for drugstores (0.3 percent vs -0.7 percent); clothing (2.3 percent vs -1.1 percent); shoes & leather goods (0.5 percent vs -4.2 percent). Meanwhile, food trade recovered (0.9 percent vs -0.4 percent in May).

Dutch Retail Trade Growth Accelerates in May
Retail sales in the Netherlands increased 3.1 percent year-on-year in May 2019, accelerating from a downwardly revised 2.2 percent growth in the previous month. Non-food trade growth accelerated (3.5 percent vs 1.4 percent in April), particularly due to do-it-yourself items, kitchens, floors (4.7 percent vs 3.3 percent) and furniture, home furnishings (12.4 percent vs 6.9 percent). Meantime, sales rose softer for consumer electronics (4.3 percent vs 4.5 percent) and sales shrank for drugstores (-0.7 percent vs 1.3 percent); clothing (-1.0 percent vs -3.0 percent); recreational goods (-0.4 percent, the same as in April), and shoes & leather goods (-4.2 percent vs -4.7 percent). On the other hand, food trade fell (-0.4 percent vs 0.1 percent in April).
