India Current Account Deficit Narrows in Q1 2019-20
India's current account deficit narrowed to USD 14.3 billion, or 2.0 percent of GDP, in April-June 2019-20 from USD 15.8 billion, or 2.3 percent of GDP, in the same period a year earlier. The goods deficit increased to USD 46.2 billion from USD 45.8 billion a year ago and the primary income gap went up to USD 6.1 billion from USD 5.8 billion. Meanwhile, the services surplus widened to USD 20.0 billion from USD 18.7 billion in the previous year and the secondary income surplus advanced to USD 18.0 billion from USD 17.1 billion.

India Current Account Deficit Narrows in Q4 2018-19
India's current account deficit narrowed sharply to USD 4.6 billion, or 0.7 percent of GDP, in January-March 2018-19 from USD 13.0 billion, or 1.8 percent of GDP, in the same period a year earlier. The goods deficit decreased to USD 35.2 billion from USD 41.6 billion a year ago and the primary income gap shrank to USD 6.9 billion from USD 7.8 billion. Meanwhile, the services surplus widened to USD 21.3 billion from USD 20.2 billion in the previous year while the secondary income surplus was unchanged at USD 16.2 billion. Considering 2018-19 fiscal year, the current account gap increased to USD 57.2 billion, or 2.1 percent of GDP, from USD 48.7 billion, or 1.8 percent of GDP, in 2017-18 on the back of widening of the trade deficit.

India Current Account Gap Widens on Higher Imports
India's current account deficit widened to USD 16.9 billion, or 2.5 percent of the GDP in the last three months of 2018 from USD 13.7 billion or 2.1 percent of the GDP a year earlier. The goods deficit increased to USD 49.5 billion from USD 44 billion a year ago as imports rose 9 percent while exports went up at a softer 7.2 percent. On the other hand, the services surplus increased to USD 21.3 billion from USD 20.7 billion, boosted by a rise in net earnings from telecommunications, computer and information services and financial services. The primary income gap decreased to USD 6 billion from USD 6.5 billion and the secondary income surplus rose to USD 17.3 billion from USD 16.1 billion.
