Brazil Retail Sales Rise Less than Expected
Retail sales in Brazil increased 0.1 percent from a month earlier in October 2019, easing from an upwardly revised 0.8 percent gain in the previous month and missing market forecasts of a 0.3 percent rise. Sales slowed for furniture & appliances (0.9 percent vs 6.2 percent in September); other personal & domestic goods (0.3 percent vs 1.8 percent); and clothing & footwear (0.2 percent vs 3.4 percent). In addition, sales dropped in hypermarkets, supermarkets, food products & beverages (-0.1 percent vs 0.3 percent). On the other hand, sales went up further for fuels & lubricants (1.7 percent vs 1.2 percent); and pharmaceutical & cosmetics articles (1.2 percent vs 0.7 percent). Also, sales of office equipment, computer & communication rebounded (5.3 percent vs -1.7 percent); while those of books, newspapers & stationery fell at a softer pace (-1.1 percent vs -2.1 percent). On a yearly basis, retail trade rose 4.2 percent, after an upwardly revised 2.2 percent gain.

Brazil Retail Sales Rise 0.7% in September
Retail sales in Brazil rose 0.7 percent over a month earlier in September 2019, following an upwardly revised 0.2 percent gain in August and matching market expectations. Sales rebounded for furniture & appliances (5.2 percent vs -1.9 percent in August); clothing & footwear (3.3 percent vs -2.1 percent); fuels & lubricants (1.2 percent vs -3.3 percent); and pharmaceutical & cosmetics articles (0.5 percent vs -0.2 percent). Also, sales of other personal & domestic goods advanced further (1.8 percent vs 0.1 percent). Meanwhile, sales rose less for hypermarkets, supermarkets, food products & beverages (0.2 percent vs 0.3 percent); and books, newspapers & stationery (0.2 percent vs 0.4 percent); and sales of office equipment, computer & communication fell (-2 percent vs 3.8 percent). On a yearly basis, retail trade went up 2.1 percent, after rising 1.4 percent in August. Considering the third quarter as a whole, retail sales increased 2.6 percent compared to the same period of 2018.

Retail sales in Brazil increased 0.1 percent over a month earlier in August 2019, slowing from a downwardly revised 0.5 percent gain in the previous month and below market forecasts of a 0.3 percent rise. Sales growth eased for hypermarkets, supermarkets, food products, beverages & tobacco (0.6 percent vs 1.1 percent in July); books, newspapers, magazines & stationery (0.2 percent vs 2.2 percent); and other personal & domestic goods (0.2 percent vs 2.4 percent). Also, sales dropped for fuels & lubricants (-3.3 percent vs 0.6 percent); pharmaceutical & cosmetics articles (-0.3 percent vs 0.6 percent); furniture & appliances (-1.5 percent vs 0.7 percent); and office equipment, computer & communication(3.8 percent vs -0.7 percent). On a yearly basis, retail trade went up 1.3 percent, after a 4.3 percent increase in the prior month and missing market expectations of a 1.8 percent gain.

Brazil Retail Sales Rise the Most in 8 Months
Retail sales in Brazil rose 1 percent month-over-month in July 2019, following an upwardly revised 0.5 percent gain in June and beating market expectations of a 0.1 percent fall. It was the biggest gain in retail trade since November last year, as sales increased further in hypermarkets, supermarkets, food products, beverages & tobacco (1.3 percent vs 0.1 percent in June); pharmaceutical & cosmetics articles (0.7 percent vs 0.3 percent); and other personal & domestic goods (2.2 percent vs 0.5 percent). Also, sales rebounded in furniture & appliances (1.6 percent vs -0.5 percent); and books, newspapers, magazines & stationery (1.8 percent vs -0.8 percent). Additionally, sales of office equipment, computer & communication dropped less (-1.6 percent vs -2.6 percent). On a yearly basis, retail trade went up 4.3 percent, after an upwardly revised 0.1 percent rise and above market consensus of a 1.95 percent gain.

Brazil Retail Sales Rise Less than Expected
Retail sales in Brazil edged up 0.1 percent from the previous month in June 2019, after being unchanged in May and missing market expectations of a 0.5 percent gain. An increase in sales of textiles, clothing & footwear (1.5 percent vs 1.8 percent) and pharmaceutical & cosmetics articles (0.3 percent vs 1 percent) was partially offset by declines in sales of fuels & lubricants (-1.4 percent vs -0.8 percent), furniture & appliances (-1 percent vs -0.4 percent), books, newspapers, magazines & stationery (-0.8 percent vs 0.4 percent), and office equipment, computer & communication (-2.4 percent vs 1.1 percent). Meanwhile, sales at hypermarkets, supermarkets, food products, beverages & tobacco were flat, after a 1.7 percent advance in May. On a yearly basis, retail trade dropped 0.3 percent in June, following a 1 percent growth in May.

Brazil Retail Sales Fall the Least in Over a Year
Retail sales in Brazil fell 0.1 percent over the previous month in May 2019, following a downwardly revised 0.4 percent decline in the previous month and below market expectations of a 0.2 percent gain. Sales rebounded in hypermarkets, supermarkets, food products, beverages & tobacco (1.4% vs -1.9% in April); fabrics, clothing & footwear (1.7% vs -4.5%); pharmaceutical & cosmetics articles (0.9% vs -0.6%); and office equipment, computer & communication (2.2% vs -6.2%). Also, sales of furniture & appliances rose further (1.7% vs 0.4%). Meanwhile, sales of fuels & lubricants declined (-0.8% vs 0.6%) and those of personal and domestic use dropped at a faster pace (-1.4% vs -0.6%). Additionally, sales of books, newspapers, magazines & stationery increased less (0.4% vs 5.6%). Year-on-year, retail trade went up 1 percent, easing from an upwardly revised 1.8 percent rise in April and missing market forecasts of 1.3 percent.
